You don’t need an Italian number to start. Keep the number your customers already know, forward it to Callin.io, and request an Italian number when you’re ready.

Step 1: Forward your current number

Your number stays with your current carrier. You only need a number in Callin.io to forward your calls to.
1
In Numbers, buy a number. US and Canada numbers are active right away.
2
Ask your carrier how to forward your calls to that number. Don’t turn forwarding on until you’ve tested the agent (Step 3).
See How to connect your number to Callin for the details.
Your carrier may charge for forwarding calls to a foreign number. Ask before you turn it on.
Common mistake: Forwarding your calls to a Personal Number. Personal Numbers are outbound-only, so nobody answers.

Step 2: Create your first agent

1
Go to AI Agents and click Create Agent. See AI Agents.
2
Set Language to Italian and the time zone to Rome.
3
Set Call Direction to Inbound or Both, so the agent answers incoming calls.
4
Assign the number from Step 1 to the agent.

Step 3: Test the agent

1
Click Test AI agent at the top right and talk to the agent from your browser.
2
Call the agent’s number and check that it answers as you expect.
3
When you’re happy with it, turn forwarding on with your carrier.

Step 4: Request an Italian number

Italian numbers aren’t immediate: you request them in Numbers and send the documents they ask for. See Numbers And BYOC.
With a monthly plan, one single number is free, with setup and monthly fee included. With pay as you go, it’s charged separately.
Once the number is active, assign it to your agent.
